Sportmanship - Camaraderie - Tradition

Welcome to authentic Alabama hunting in an unspoiled, family-owned setting! Whether you’re on a corporate or personal retreat, you’ll find quail and other game in abundance, terrain that is managed to provide perfect cover, superlative dogs and staff who roll expertise and Southern hospitality into one.

Pa-Ko caters to your needs with a philosophy honored through three generations: when you’re at Pa-Ko, you’re family, too.

Classic Alabama Hunting — Custom Planned

Pa-Ko devotes as much attention to its plantation environment as it does to its guests. That adds up to an unrivalled hunting experience, no matter what your interests or level of expertise.

We’ve managed the land for abundance since Pa-Ko’s inception. Stands of planted pine, plus the deft use of controlled burns, produce prime quail hunting habitat, while vast hardwood bottoms favor eastern wild turkey and whitetail deer. We routinely work with wildlife experts to make trophy game the rule, not the exception.

But it’s customizing that puts our hunting trips in a different league. Plantation owner J. Paul Taylor knows every inch of land, every seasonal change. He evaluates each group’s specific interests and capabilities, then aligns those with current Alabama hunting conditions, recent wildlife movement and more. You can count on being in trusted hands with expert guides. No matter how often you return, every hunt is new.

Alabama deer hunts that keep bringing you back.

deerThere’s a reason more than 95% of Pa-Ko’s deer hunters return again and again: our hunts are simply best in class. We manage our herds to produce trophy-size bucks. Our knowledgeable guides work with small groups—or even one-on-one—to assure safety and success, even for the novice. Our per-hunt deer limits are as generous as it gets.

Custom Hunts
Pa-Ko customizes each hunt to your level of experience and interests. We also manage every detail of your harvest, from de-boning and packing the meat for your cooler to preparing your trophy for transport home.

Bow Hunting
Bow hunting begins mid-October, just as deer are feeding on white oak acorns, persimmons and around the edges of winter food plots. Mild temperatures prevail and our guides know established travel routes and creek crossings. Ladder stands are placed strategically throughout the acreage and you can also bring your own stand and safety belt.

Pa-Ko’s shooting tower and 3-D targets provide pre-hunt practice. We reserve 1000 of our acres exclusively for bow hunting of our deer.

Firearm Season
Firearm deer hunt season starts the Saturday before Thanksgiving and lasts through January. We encourage the novice to book early in the season when deer are most plentiful and free of hunting pressure. But no matter when you come, our guides will put you where the action is.

A typical hunt stretches from Thursday afternoon through mid-day Sunday. We depart early and hunt late, feed you deliciously and well, give you plenty of practice on our rifle range. Bring your hunter orange cap or vest—or purchase it here.

Upland hunts: Flighty birds, lots of action!

Nothing gets the blood pumping or builds connections within a corporate team, like upland bird hunting at Pa-Ko. We provide all the elements of great Alabama quail hunting—plentiful coveys, exceptional dogs, plus unlimited gunning—in an untamed setting. Except for modern conveniences like our quail wagon, you might be stepping back a hundred years.

We’ve perfected a method of breeding Bobwhite for release months before the season opens on October 1st.

Result: Strong, high-flying birds indistinguishable from our wild population. Sporty pheasants and chukkars can be added to the hunt on request.

Another Pa-Ko exclusive is our Irish setter breeding program. Combine these red dogs with our English setters and pointers for unmatched bird-dogging. Or bring your own dogs and treat them to our kennels. Pa-Ko’s handlers are renowned throughout the Southeast, and can even put your dogs through advanced upland hunt training too.

A leisurely lunch comes with both half-day (9 a.m-noon or 1-4 p.m.) hunts. Most groups who stay over say the wingshooting experience carries right through an evening of story-trading by the fire pit too. So let us arrange a corporate hunting package that works for your group.

Dozens of coveys rise in a single hunt. Wingshooting is unlimited. At hunt’s end, each hunter will receive one dozen Alabama quail cleaned, packaged and frozen for transport.

Turkey hunts in prime Alabama habitat.

Spotting turkey at Pa-Ko Plantation during March and April is no problem. Our founder, Paul Messham, was instrumental in returning wild turkey to southern Alabama. Paul’s proprietary method of raising and releasing thousands of birds without allowing them to even see a human is still in use—and producing trophy Toms—to this day.

Wild turkey love Pa-Ko’s range of timber, ravines and the varied crops we plant, such as chufa, corn, millet and green cover. Is it any wonder our gobblers can sport 9-inch beards?

Guided three-day turkey hunts typically begin before sunrise, break for a hearty noon brunch and resume around 4:00 p.m. Hunters are permitted to take up to two gobblers per three-day hunt.

Alabama Turkey Hunting

Three-day Spring Gobbler Package $1,500.00

Limits: 2 gobblers.
Includes lodging, all meals and guide.

Trophy fee, third gobbler: $250.00.

Fishing year-round, and free for Pa-Ko guests.

While you hunt at Pa-Ko, the fishing is on us! Twenty-five acres of well-stocked ponds, plus our location near Lake Eufala, offer our plantation guests plentiful bass and bream. We can accommodate any skill level. Some tackle is available on-site, though practiced pros may want to bring their own.

For those wishing to fish exclusively, Pa-Ko offers daily, fully-guided packages. Though peak months are February-April and September through mid-November, southern Alabama boasts great fishing any time of year.

About Us

About Pa-Ko Plantation

Authentic, unbroken tradition.

Unlike many “hunt destinations,” Pa-Ko Plantation operates from a rich, unbroken family heritage. Hospitality has come first since the 1950s, when Paul and Kookie Messham began to nurture their 6,000 S.E. Alabama acres for the hunting enjoyment of fellow industrialists and friends.

Today’s quail, turkey and deer hunters still enjoy southern cooking served on family china. Modern conveniences are so unobtrusive you’ll swear you’ve stepped back in time, to wingshooting in the real Old South.
